Dr. J. Y. Liao, F.R.C.P. (C) Diplomate - American Board of Dermatology

Dr. Liao graduated in medicine in 1970 from the University of Malaysia. She trained further at the University of Toronto in the dermatological program until 1976. She started her practice in Edmonton in 1976. Dr. Liao is at present an Associate Clinical Professor in the Division of Dermatology in the University of Alberta; she is also on staff at the University of Alberta Hospital. She had been a past president of the Alberta Society of Dermatology, a board member of the Canadian Dermatology Association, and a board member of the Canadian Society of Dermatological Surgery.

Dr. Liao is an active member in a number of international societies such as the American Academy of Dermatology, International Society of Dermatological Surgery and International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. She attends their meetings regularly to update and learn of the latest and safest methods and therapies. Dr. Liao is very interested in the area of hair growth and skin rejuvenation.

Dr. Liao has over 25 years of experience in hair restoration in Edmonton.

Hair-transplants - This is for patients with very thin or no hair; they can have the hair from the thicker areas transplanted to the affected parts. Very natural looking hairlines can be obtained by one, two or three hair graft sessions. We have packages explaining the procedure that we are happy to send or hand out. Liposuction or Liposculpture - This is the removal of fat tissue from the area that is under the skin. This procedure is not for weight reduction. Patients who want this procedure should be exercising and controlling their diet. The patients who do well are the ones who have areas of fat that did not respond to both dieting and exercising. Chemical Peels - Skin can be damaged with fruit acids and when recovered will appear smoother and fresher looking. We do glycolic acid peels of concentrations that are higher than 50%. We also do peels that are deeper with both trichoroacetic acid and glycolic acid. Ask for the Chemical Peel Package. Private consultations are also available.

Botox - This is botulism toxin. We use it to inactivate muscles that cause wrinkles. The best areas to use this on are the frown lines. The action will last a few months. Private consultations are also available.

Veins - Leg veins and face veins may be treated. We also remove moles and spots that are associated with age like brown or raised or flat blotches and also skin tags. Private consultations are also available.
